the model of the Good Samaritan
20241022_173434bis.jpg

Two individuals, a priori opposed by society and its constructions, find themselves linked by an essential gesture: one helps the other, thus transcending antagonisms which, in another context, would have separated them (cf. the parable of the Good Samaritan).  The heart of the sculpture is the Red Crystal, a smooth and open space, contrasting with the roughness of the surrounding rock. This crystal, symbol of neutrality and mutual aid, is here both a base and a refuge. In the center, a void, a hollow space from which this unexpected meeting between the two protagonists emerges. The faces of the characters, deliberately simplified and unified, recall Michelangelo's unfinished sculptures. They reflect this idea of a humanity in the making, not yet fully realized, but in the process of transformation. Simplification also evokes the union of a moment between two individuals. The details of the sculpture focus mainly on the arms and hands, to mark the gesture of support.  This work is intended to be timeless and universal. It invites us to reflect on our unconditional capacity to reach out to others. It is a tribute to the fragile but very real possibility of mutual aid despite everything.

The red crystal is an invention which dates from 2005 but which is not widely used in the world because particularly in Europe people are very happy with the Red Cross, in Turkey the red crescents etc.. The new symbol is primarily used in regions where religious tensions are particularly pronounced, with Israel being a key example. Notably, the parable of the Good Samaritan is set in this very area. Today, the preference for this new symbol comes in place of the red Jewish star, which served as the equivalent of the Red Cross but carried significant religious connotations. The goal of the organization, however, is to remain entirely neutral.

It is in giving that we receive

Time is precious and once lost, can never be regained. By helping others, you are sharing your personal time. Talent is given to everyone not only for personal use, but to enrich the lives of others. Your special gift of talent is the only unique gift you can give for the benefit of others.     St. Francis of Assisi

The journey of togetherness

Titel: The Journey of Togetherness: How Helping Others Elevates Us

Each encounter with someone in need offers us a chance to shift our perspective. Do we remain passive, or do we move toward them?

By helping to carry the burdens we encounter in our lives, we create a sense of togetherness, where strength and meaning reside.

Think of the simple example of an elderly person needing assistance to cross the road. Those who step in to help are not just aiding another; they are also crossing over to a deeper understanding and a new level of enlightenment.

Becoming a neighbour

When becoming a good neighbour, we will stand together, despite our differences, shoulder to shoulder, as brothers and sisters, we can face suffering and experience life's joy in unity.

Joseph, Mary travel to Bethlehem

"The story of Mary, Joseph, and the donkey traveling to Bethlehem reminds us of vulnerable families in unfamiliar lands, seeking shelter. This large-scale sculpture, with its focus on the figures and their expressions, is designed to capture the essence of their emotions and evoke empathy in visitors.”

        The Highest Offer
IMG_9052.JPG

„The Highest Offer“ – sculpture in the memory of the young man who sacrified his life in order to help his fellow citizen.

Proposal – concept – design:

In my design, I propose to touch the tragedy in a symbolic and very abstracted way to focus on the brave and extremely generous deed of the victim, rather than the brutality of the act which can not be undone. I see such an act as a highest self-sacrifice, act of offering life in order to protect someone else. So rare in our ego-driven society.

In the sculpture, I try to visualise the moment of offering the „inner-self“. It works with the element of hands in a symbolic gesture of the offer. I was not sure how to picture the inner-self. I remembered the film of Darren Aronofsky named „Mother!“ in which the author pictures the essence of a person as a precious crystal. I like the idea. So I work with the shape of a crystal in a abstracted way, treating it in a graphic manner. The crystal is expanding into space to express its movement from the one who offers it, it is being devided and even broken to implement the moment of preasure and violence.

The crystal has also, with some imagination, a shape of a lotus flower – symbol of purity, strength and rebirth in Eastren phylosophies. Qualities embraced by the man who was ready to sacrify his life.
